Summer is here and that means warm weather and enjoying the great outdoors with friends and family.  Part of what helps make the outdoors so enjoyable for Association homeowners is the serene landscape of their property.  In order to keep it attractive and growing properly, it is important to maintain the irrigation controllers.  When it comes time to replace your irrigation controller, the best thing to do is to get the cheapest one on the market right?  Actually, it depends!

Sometimes the least expensive controllers are actually the most wasteful to operate when it comes to water consumption.  In addition, by using a “dumb” controller, you will not be able to realize the many benefits provided to you by your local water district.  The marketplace is now full of “smart” controllers that can detect areas of low moisture and provide irrigation to landscaping all at the control of your computer or tablet in the comfort of your own home or office.  What is more, by not having constant water flow, these newer style controllers have the ability to save an Association hundreds or thousands of dollars a year in decreased water consumption.  Although they can be more expensive to install, often times the added costs will be returned to you through water savings and the many and various rebates that local water districts are offering to promote the use of this new, green and sustainable technology.  So before you replace your old irrigation controller with the least expensive option, stop, think and do a little research.  You may be able to install a new “smart” controller that will save you time, money and energy in the long run.
